Supervising graduate and senior undergraduate students is one of the aspects of my job that I enjoy most. I supervise a number of undergraduate and graduate students who are conducting research in the broad areas of community and health psychology. I currently supervise six graduate students, and I generally supervise two to three undergraduate thesis students per year. Currently, my graduate students are working on projects on motivational predictors of substance use, gambling, and academic risk-taking; social reactions to help-seeking in interpersonal violence against women; expectancy flexibility in relation to optimism/pessimism; sense of community in online health groups; and social constructions of obesity and weight loss.
In addition to research supervision, I frequently serve as faculty supervisor to graduate students who are completing practicums or internships in various community settings to fulfill requirements of our Applied Social Psychology graduate program. I have also supervised and served on the thesis and dissertation committees of many Psychology students, and I frequently serve as an external reader on Master's committees in Nursing and Human Kinetics. |
